Bargo RFS

Bargo RFSThe Bargo Rural Fire Service has been integral to Bargo for many years. Manned by volunteers, quickly on the scene in many emergencies, they are a very much respected part of our community. Presently they are situated on Avon Dam Rd and have quick access to Bargo and to the expressway where they  often attend accidents, helping the injured and ensuring that the road is clear and safe for traffic.

Unfortunately they have outgrown their present site and have been waiting several years for Council to make another site available to them. Council offered land behind the sportsground, which council owns and would cost nothing. It was rejected by the fire brigade due to the fact that attending any emergencies would mean crossing a busy and difficult intersection putting traffic and possibly people at risk.

They have chosen a piece of State Rail land on the corner of Avon Dam Rd and the Rail bridge. State rail has agreed to a reasonable price, which will be obtained from the present site when it is sold. Council is yet to move on this plan, meaning the fire service is presently dealing with leaky sheds and inadequate grounds to function.

Good News !

At an extraordinary council meeting in Monday 1st. June the council passed the purchase of the land on Corner of Avon Dam Rd and the rail bridge. The Bargo RFS selected this as their preferable site several years ago, and after much agitation council has finally agreed. Their current shed is too small and in poor condition, so a new shed will be greatly appreciated.
